this book didn't say anything new that you can't find elsewhere or on the internet. but it surely saves me a lot of trouble googling by putting everything together.

I will be honest, this book has inspired me to get take some initiative in my job search! If you are looking to take that extra step into the job market, this book is a great starting place! It provides real world examples that any individual can use to improve his likeliness of finding a job

In a struggling economy like this one, finding a job can be a daunting task. As an IT professional, I have had recent success and would highly recommend using http://www.hound.com to search for jobs. Hound lists its jobs strictly from employer websites, and has FAR more jobs than many other job boards. Hound is a great resource to get your feet back into the working world!

Bought this because I've been off the market for a while and knew I could upgrade my resume with the right tools. The suggestions improved my resume quite a bit. It's easy to read straight through or pick and choose what you need. Several sample resumes were helpful, but I was surprised there were no healthcare examples.

The New Job Search is a fast, entertaining book for anyone who wants to improve their job search results. If you have been doing the same thing and been expecting a different result than this book is for you. It is a different approach to finding the right job for you. Molly's sense of humor makes the book fun, but her suggestions are invaluable.

Comment on Federal Resume Guidebook: Strategies for Writing a Winning Federal Electronic Resume, KSAs, and Essays, 4th Edition by l. candry

Life-long bureaucrat Katheryn Troutman has spent her career helping to create this complicated federal hiring mess. Now she's cashing in her access and influence with the federal government to profit privately with a series of federal career products and services.

Like most government publications, this one is poorly organized, confusing and full of contradictions like:

Page 88 suggests "only" as a powerful word to define the level and scope of your experience and skills.

Page 96 says to avoid superlatives, such as "only".

In chapter 11, Troutman tells us you cannot begin writing a federal resume until you've studied vacancy announcements.

The first ten chapters discuss how to write your resume with only passing mention of vacancy announcements.

Perhaps the information in chapter 11 should be at the front of the book.

Despite Troutman's praise for "plain language", this book is mearly Bureaucratese Light. If you like reading tax code, standardized test questions or legal terms and agreements, you'll love Federal Resume Guidebook. For the rest of us, there's got to be something better. Her self-congratulatory smiling face on the back cover makes me sick.

I really loved this book it gave tons of great info and helped me get motivated... another resource i like using is http://www.EditingCrossing.com to look for jobs because it has jobs only from employer websites and far more jobs than you will find on other job boards. Much better than Monster.com in my opinion!

As a Career Coach, I often work with clients who cringe at the thought of networking to find job leads or struggle with the idea of "selling themselves" on an interview. So many times I've wished I had a resource I could offer that would help them feel more comfortable with their introversion, as well as provide tools for how to conduct a successful job search. I have finally found such a resource. In the "Successful Introvert," Wendy describes the differences between "introversion" and "shyness" and offers insights into the challenges faced by introverts as they strive to manage their careers in a seemingly "extroverted" world. Being a Career Coach and an introvert herself, she offers empathetic advice, practical strategies, usable tools, and realistic action plans that will help any introverted or shy person feel more confident, empowered, and "OK" with who they are as they conduct their job search and manage their career.

Throughout the book are quotes by professionals in a variety of careers who consider themselves introverted, and who offer insights into how they've managed their introversion and tapped into their strengths to survive - and even thrive - in an extroverted world. I found these insights most valuable and I believe readers of the book will connect with the people she's interviewed and take strength from their comments. I highly recommend this book to anyone who considers themselves introverted and who wants to feel more confident in conducting their job search and in managing their career in general.

I am currently staying with my two daughters in Laurel, Maryland and recently attended a TSA Job Fair at Dulles Airport. I was encouraged to apply online right then and there for a job at Erie Airport. I did so and then realized that I was not prepared to immediately attach a FEDERAL RESUME. I was told by the TSA representative at the airport to send it via fax or email as soon as possible with the application number that I was given last Saturday after applying online.
When I asked my wife what a FEDERAL RESUME was, she told me that it was quite different than the one and two page resumes she has written for me. She told me that she had just received your book, THE FEDERAL RESUME GUIDEBOOK, in the mail and was amazed at how very informative and comprehensive it is. She is now awaiting the templates that she ordered, but warned me that this was not something she could whip up in a few hours. She suggested that I contact you and the impressive team of professionals at THE RESUME PLACE for some urgent help!
I am not sure that I can afford your services in my state of unemployment, but my wife said, after reading your book, that she was quite sure that I couldn't afford to be WITHOUT your professional help! I don't know if looking for a new career in government at my age is realistic, but I am determined to give it a try if you feel it is in the realm of possible.
Thanks for writing such a wonderful book. I wish I had read it 35 years ago!

Consider the "Federal Resume Guidebook, Fourth Edition," as the bible for serious federal job seekers. A few months ago I attended a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) class before I retired from the Air Force. The TAP instructor lightly covered federal resumes, KSA's, etc., I was totally confused. Family, friends, and former co-workers all provided me with advice on how a federal resume should be written, formatted, and distributed. After several misses on the job market I decided to purchase this book. HALLELUJAH ! This book will take you step-by-step on the federal resume process with some excellent federal resume samples you can use on your quest for a career with government agencies. I also decided to invest in the Entry-Level and Mid-Level Assessment Service offered by the authors company, The Resume Place. If your are serious about your federal job search I strongly suggest you purchase this service. You will not be disappointed. One last item, the author Ms. Kathryn Troutman personally provided me with the assessment and offered some great suggestions I had overlooked when I created my resume. WoW, what great customer service. This book certainly deserves a "Five Stars" plus rating. I'm certain I will catch the attention of the federal agencies where I want to work.
