A Few Job Interview Basics

A job interview doesn’t have to be a big scary event. In fact, it can actually be rather fun and informative for both interviewer and interviewee. I have been in a number of interviews and I have come to learn a few things I think can be helpful in assisting people in succeeding with interviews. If you pay particular attention to detail you will be able to land the all important job you have been seeking to find all year long. Here are some job interview basics to help you through.

Have a polished and clean appearance. The first few seconds from the time you enter the office are perhaps the most decisive seconds of an interview. First impressions last longer than ones that follow later. So make sure you are as smart as possible as this will tell the boss what sort of person you are. Make sure clothes are well ironed, hair is well combed and that your shoes are polished to perfection.

One of the most important job interview basics is to project a confident air. Confidence is a master and a low self esteem is always the slave. The moment you walk into the interview room make sure you establish eye contact immediately. And when you get to shake hands be sure to have a confident grip of the bosses hands. Do not take a seat immediately but ask first. This always indicates a respectful attitude.

A smile is crucial. People who smile are good for any business and people are more likely to warm up to them than to those that wear frowns like they are in fashion. But be careful not to overuse it as it might come off as fake or forced. Along these same line, be sure to relax – remember you are not on trail and this interview is as much for your benefit as for the benefit of the person interviewing you.

Knowing a little bit of detail about the company interviewing you is also one of the important job interview basics. If you know a bit about the company, you can then ask intelligent questions about their products and company culture. Many people don’t do this and it can set you apart from the rest of the candidates.
